THE IMPORTANCE OF INTELLIGENCE AS AN OBJECT OF STUDY IN THE DEFENSE FIELD IN BRAZIL

Abstract

Intelligence plays a crucial role in National Defense and is essential for ensuring that every action in the defense sector is developed based upon precise and opportune knowledge. As an intrinsic element of defense, Intelligence provides the capacity to produce strategic knowledge through a methodology that seeks neutrality and impartiality. Regardless of its importance in defense, Intelligence is not well contemplated as an object of study in the academic field of strategic studies in Brazil. This article aims at addressing the role of Intelligence in this academic field, its importance as a tool for strategic assistance in the State’s decision making process on defense matters and the current scenario of Intelligence studies in the academic field of strategic studies in Brazil.
